Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The VicePrincipal will play a key leadership role working alongside the Principal to ensure the smooth, effective, and forwardlooking operation of the school. This includes academic oversight, operational management, staff development, student welfare and discipline, and deputising for the Principal when required.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & School Culture

  • Support development, communication and implementation of the schools strategic aims, vision, mission and values.
  • Promote and maintain a positive, inclusive, highexpectation culture for students and staff.
  • Lead or colead school improvement initiatives (academic, operational, cocurricular).
  • Represent the school externally (parents, community, regulators) as needed.

Academic Leadership

  • Oversee curriculum implementation and ensure alignment with the school’s philosophy and board requirements (e.g. CBSE).
  • Lead qualityassurance of teaching & learning, monitor academic outcomes and take corrective action.
  • Ensure teachers and staff receive appropriate professional development and mentoring.
  • Assist with timetabling, resource allocation and academic planning.

Operational & Administrative Management

  • Manage daily school operations in partnership with the Principal: e.g., scheduling, staffing, resource deployment, facilities, safety & security.
  • Supervise nonteaching staff and support functions to ensure efficient school run.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory, health & safety, safeguarding, and board requirements.
  • Assist with budgeting, costcontrol, admissions support and school growth initiatives.

Student Welfare, Behaviour & Discipline

  • Promote a safe, supportive and respectful environment for students.
  • Oversee student behaviour policy, attendance, pastoral care, and welfare systems.
  • Handle escalation of student/parent issues, grievances and conflicts in liaison with the Principal.
  • Build partnerships with parents, guardians and community stakeholders to support student success.

Deputising Role

  • In the absence of the Principal, act as the school’s executive leader including decisionmaking, communication with stakeholders, and oversight of critical functions.

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Education, Educational Leadership/Administration or equivalent.
  • Proven experience (ideally 5+ years) in a senior leadership role in a school environment (preferably CBSE or similar system).
  • Demonstrated success in curriculum planning, academic improvement and teacher development.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, conflictresolution and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation in education, childcentred pedagogy and ethical leadership.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, school operations, admissions and financial oversight is desirable.
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams, delegate effectively and build a collaborative culture.

Work Conditions

  • Usual school hours with occasional additional commitments (events, evenings, parent meetings).
  • Ability to travel (if multiple campuses) and engage outside normal hours when required.
  • High energy role requiring both strategic planning and tactical execution.
