Job Description

A Tooling Supervisor manages the design, production, maintenance, and repair of tools, dies, molds, and fixtures used in manufacturing, ensuring they meet quality, safety, and production standards. Key responsibilities include leading a team of technicians, coordinating with engineering and production, troubleshooting tooling issues, managing tooling budgets and inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality regulations. A strong technical background in machining or tool and die making, coupled with leadership and organizational skills, is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Tooling Operations:Manage the daily activities of the tool room or tooling department, ensuring smooth and efficient operation of all tooling processes.
  • Team Leadership:Supervise, train, and coordinate the work of toolmakers, technicians, and other staff to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to perform their jobs.
  • Tool Design & Maintenance:Oversee the creation, modification, and maintenance of tools, dies, molds, and fixtures to meet specifications and production requirements.
  • Quality Assurance:Ensure that all tooling meets the company's quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:Work with engineering, production, and quality control departments to support new product development and optimize tool performance.
  • Troubleshooting:Identify and resolve technical issues with tools and equipment to improve cycle times and quality.
  • Inventory & Budget Management:Monitor and manage tooling budgets, track tooling inventory, and coordinate the procurement of necessary supplies and tools.
  • Safety Compliance:Ensure the team and equipment adhere to all safety standards and company policies.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge:Extensive experience and strong technical knowledge in tool and die making, machining, or a related manufacturing field.
  • Leadership & Management:Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Problem-Solving:Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address complex technical challenges.
  • Organizational Skills:The ability to manage projects, coordinate workflows, and maintain accurate records.
  • Communication:Excellent communication skills to coordinate with various departments and manage a team effectively.
  • Educational Background:Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with several years of relevant experience.

Required Software & Tools

  • Microsoft Office:For database management and internal communication.
  • Tooling Software:Experience with relevant software for design, scheduling, and inventory management.
  • CNC Machine Tools:Proficiency in programming and operating computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools may be required.
  • Measuring Tools:Familiarity with tools like calipers, micrometers, and systems like GageTrak for calibration and quality control.
