Key Responsibilities:
The Textile Expert will be responsible for the following:
Technical Support and Design Development:
- Assess the existing weaving techniques, tools, and product lines of local artisans and weavers.
- Introduce improved designs, patterns, and weaving techniques suitable for local skill levels and available raw materials.
- Guide artisans on yarn selection, dyeing, colour combinations, finishing, and quality enhancement.
- Develop product prototypes and new collections aligning with contemporary market demand.
Capacity Building and Training:
- Design and conduct hands-on training programs and workshops for artisans and weavers.
- Build the capacity of local trainers and cluster-level organizations for sustained technical support.
- Develop training modules/manuals on weaving techniques, quality control, and design diversification.
Production and Quality Management:
- Support standardization of products to ensure consistent quality and finish.
- Establish quality benchmarks and protocols for handloom products.
- Provide guidance for efficient production management, including time, material, and cost optimization.
Market Linkage and Value Chain Development:
- Collaborate with market experts and agencies to identify suitable domestic and international markets.
- Support artisans and producer groups in participating in fairs, exhibitions, and trade events.
- Facilitate linkages with designers, entrepreneurs, and buyers to expand the market reach.
- Advise on branding, packaging, and product positioning strategies.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of trainings, workshops, production progress, and innovations introduced.
- Prepare periodic progress reports and technical documentation.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, and impact assessment of textile-related interventions.
Qualification and Experience-
Essential:
- Bachelor s/Master s degree in Textile Design, Handloom Technology, Fashion Design, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in the handloom or textile sector, preferably in the Northeast region.
- Proven expertise in design development, dyeing, weaving techniques, and quality control.
- Experience in conducting training and capacity-building programs for artisans.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with traditional Assamese handloom products, motifs, and raw materials.
- Experience in developing market linkages for rural artisan clusters.
- Strong networking and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multi-stakeholder teams.
- Should always be ready to do any conservation-related and organizational activities.

38 months
Remuneration:
Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and organizational norms. Travel and field expenses will be reimbursed as per project provisions.
