Textile Designer

Key Responsibilities

Design & Conceptualization

• Develop original textile prints, motifs, repeats, and colorways.
  
• Create mood boards, trend research decks, and seasonal themes.
  
• Understand buyer briefs and create designs aligned with brand identity.
  

Digital Design & CAD

• Create print repeats (straight, half-drop, mirrored).
  
• Prepare production-ready files (color separation, color indexing).
  
• Develop CAD layouts, fabric mapping, and digital artwork using Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator.
  

Print Development

• Coordinate with sampling units for strike-offs and sample approvals.
  
• Work with printers on rotary, screen, digital, and sublimation print techniques.
  
• Troubleshoot printing issues: color mismatch, misregistration, patchiness, etc.
  

Fabric & Material Knowledge

• Understand fabric types (cotton, viscose, polyester, blends).
  
• Ensure designs suit the materials weight, texture, drape, and dye behavior.
  

Production Coordination

• Communicate with merchandise, sampling, and production teams.
  
• Maintain detailed print specs, colorways, and technical sheets.
  
• Follow up on sampling timelines and quality control checks.
  

Market & Trend Understanding

• Analyze global fashion/home furnishing trends.
  
• Competitor research and collection planning.
  
• Present collections to buyers, clients, and internal teams.
  

Required Skills

• Strong creativity, color sense, and pattern development skills.
  
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, or CorelDRAW.
  
• Knowledge of screen, rotary, digital, and sublimation printing.
  
• Understanding of fabric behavior and dye/chemical processes.
  
• Good communication, teamwork, and time-management ability.
  

Educational Qualification

• B.Des/B.Sc in Textile Design, Fashion & Apparel Design, Fine Arts, or related fields.
  
• Diploma/Certification in Textile Design or CAD is an added advantage.
  

Preferred Experience

• Experience in fashion, home textiles, export houses, mills, or print studios.
  
• Handling print development from concept to production.
