The Role in Detail

- Lead our engineering efforts as the go-to expert for our new tech stack build out —driving resolutions during outages independently, amending AWS event-driven architectures, and ensuring systems hum for 10,000s of users and messages.

- Drive full-stack development excellence: Guide the team across backend, frontend, and infrastructure layers, architecting cohesive solutions that integrate seamlessly and scale effortlessly.

- Build and mentor a high-performing team: Foster culture, ways of working, engineering practices (like TDD, KISS, YAGNI, SOLID, Trunk-Based Development), collaboration, resilience; conduct 1:1s, code reviews, and promote AI-assisted dev tools.

- Evangelize true test-driven development (TDD) processes across the full stack, nurturing a culture where automated testing is foundational to every feature, ensuring robust, maintainable code from the ground up.

- Serve as the main point of contact for engineers, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering while working closely with Product and QA to deliver multi-tier apps from ground up—focusing on "build and run" (deploy to production, operate, and support).

- Hands-on with our stack: Architect Typescript/NestJS services, integrate GraphQL/gRPC, manage AWS (Kafka, SQS, Lambda, Fargate, EventBridge, S3, CloudFront), and touch frontend (React/Next.js) for full context.

- Champion clean coding and automation: Implement feature toggling, use tools like Postgres, vitest, React Testing Library, Apollo GraphQL, Terraform, Docker, CircleCI, SonarCloud, Datadog—all while shipping daily and advocating AI for smarter workflows.

- Lead our AI-first development culture: Deeply believe in and evangelize a paradigm where fully async coding agents work hand-in-hand with the team—not just tools like Cursor, but a seamless integration that multiplies productivity and innovation.

Role Requirements

- 8+ years in backend engineering, with strong Typescript mastery; experience building and operating systems at scale (10,000s of users/messages).

- Deep hands-on with our stack: NestJS, GraphQL/gRPC, React/Next.js (for context), Postgres; AWS event-driven services (Kafka, SQS, Lambda, Fargate, EventBridge, S3, CloudFront).

- Crucial expertise in architecture and deploying solutions to AWS, specifically using Terraform for infrastructure as code to ensure scalable, reproducible environments.

- Proven track record delivering multi-tier apps to production in startups/small companies, with "build and run" operations.

- Advocacy for clean practices: TDD, KISS, YAGNI, SOLID, Trunk-Based Development; familiarity with tools like Terraform, Docker, CircleCI, SonarCloud, Datadog, Claude Code.

- Experience building teams: Mentoring, fostering collaboration/resilience, 1:1s, code reviews.

- Based in Bangalore with a short commute to Koramangala or ready to move close to us; ready to start within 30 days and commit to in-office work initially. Candidates outside of Bangalore are welcome to apply but must be able to relocate within 30 days and fly to BLR (at our cost) for the final interview.
