Job Summary:

The Technical Documentation Engineer is responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation that clearly and accurately describes product features, system designs, installation procedures, and operational guidelines. This role bridges the gap between engineering teams and end users, ensuring that complex technical information is communicated in a clear, concise, and usable format.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain technical documents such as user manuals, installation guides, API documentation, release notes, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Collaborate with product managers, software/hardware engineers, and QA teams to gather technical information and ensure accuracy.
  • Create and update documentation in alignment with product development cycles and version releases.
  • Standardize documentation templates, style guides, and terminology to maintain consistency across all materials.
  • Use documentation tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Confluence, DITA, Adobe FrameMaker, or Markdown) to produce and publish content.
  • Review and edit documents for grammar, clarity, and technical accuracy.
  • Manage documentation repositories and version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
  • Collect feedback from users and stakeholders to continuously improve documentation quality.
  • Ensure documentation complies with organizational standards, security policies, and accessibility requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in technical writing, documentation engineering, or similar roles.
  • Strong understanding of software/hardware systems, APIs, and product development processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools (MadCap Flare, Confluence, RoboHelp, etc.) and version control (Git).
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand content.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or within a cross-functional team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Agile development environments.
  • Familiarity with Markdown, HTML, XML, and scripting for documentation automation.
  • Knowledge of DITA standards and single-sourcing best practices.
  • Experience producing multimedia documentation (e.g., videos, tutorials, or diagrams).
