Supplier Quality Engineer

The Role Overview

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) will be responsible for ensuring consistent quality of supplied parts and materials for battery manufacturing. The role involves technical evaluation of suppliers across mechanical (machining, welding, powder coating) and electronics (wiring harness, SMT) processes, managing supplier non-conformances, executing PPAP, and conducting supplier audits.

Role Description and Key Responsibilities

The role involves tasks including but not limited to -

1. Supplier Quality Management

• Manage and resolve

  Supplier Non-Conformances (SNC)

  through 8D, RCA, CAPA, and corrective action validation.
• Coordinate containment, sorting, and rework actions at supplier end to protect production.
• Track and close supplier quality issues within defined timelines.

2. Supplier Development & Performance Monitoring

• Conduct

  supplier performance evaluations

  based on PPM, OTD, CAPA closure, audit results, and responsiveness.
• Drive supplier improvement plans and monitor progress.
• Support development of new suppliers as per business requirements.

3. PPAP / APQP

• Lead and review

  Vendor PPAP submissions

  (DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, Process Flow, Dimensional Reports, IMDS, Material Test Certificates).
• Ensure suppliers follow

  APQP milestones

  for new product development and engineering changes

4. Supplier Audits

• Plan and execute

  Annual Supplier Quality Audits

  (Process Audit, System Audit, Special Process Audit: Welding, SMT, Powder Coating).
• Verify compliance with IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 requirements and customer-specific requirements.

5. Technical Expertise

• Evaluate supplier manufacturing capability for:

• Mechanical Parts:

  CNC Machining, Extrusion, Sheet Metal, Welding, Powder Coating, Surface Treatment.

• Electronics:

  Wiring Harness, PCB/SMT assembly, connectors, soldering processes, functional testing.
• Read engineering drawings, GD&T, BOM, and specifications.

6. Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Design, Production, Purchasing, and Incoming Quality teams to ensure supplier deliverables meet technical and quality expectations.
• Provide timely feedback to internal stakeholders on supplier risks and improvement actions.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• BE / B.Tech Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• Certifications in

  IATF 16949, Six Sigma, VDA 6.3

  (preferred but not mandatory).

Desired Skills and Attributes

• Strong understanding of

  automotive quality tools

  (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, 8D, 5Why, Ishikawa).
• Knowledge of

  mechanical processes

  (machining, welding, powder coating) &

  electronics manufacturing

  (SMT, harness assembly).
• Experience in

  battery pack components

  preferred (metal enclosures, busbars, PCBs, BMS harness, sensors).
• Hands-on experience in

  supplier audits

  and quality system requirements.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication, supplier negotiation, and technical report writing
