Key responsibilities

Design and analysis:

• Create designs for new structures and renovations using computer-aided design (CAD) and other software.
• Calculate loads, stresses, and strains on structural components.
• Analyze how a structure will behave under different conditions, such as weather or seismic activity.

• Project planning and execution:

  • Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Select appropriate construction materials based on safety, cost, and project requirements.
  • Obtain necessary permits and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.

• Collaboration and oversight:

  • Work closely with architects, contractors, and other engineers to develop feasible and cohesive designs.
  • Provide technical advice and support throughout the construction process.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure construction adheres to design specifications and safety standards.

• Maintenance and investigation:

  • Inspect existing structures to assess their structural integrity.
  • Identify potential problems and provide solutions for repairs or modifications.
  • Investigate the cause of structural failures and recommend necessary actions.
