Job Description

A store in-charge is responsible for overseeing daily store operations, including inventory management, staff supervision, and ensuring stock levels are maintained. Key duties include receiving and dispatching goods, keeping accurate records, coordinating with other departments, implementing safety procedures, and managing the logistics of shipments. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Core responsibilities

  • Inventory management:
  • Managing inventory requisition, purchase orders, and stock receipts.
  • Maintaining accurate records of stock levels and conducting regular audits.
  • Ensuring optimal stock levels are maintained and coordinating timely replenishment.
  • Overseeing the storage, issuance, and dispatch of materials.
  • Operations and logistics:
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the store or warehouse.
  • Managing the logistics of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Ensuring the store area is clean, organized, and safe.
  • Team and coordination:
  • Supervising and managing store personnel.
  • Coordinating with other departments, such as procurement, production, and sales.
  • Communicating with suppliers and management.
  • Record keeping and reporting:
  • Preparing and maintaining various store reports, often using ERP software.
  • Ensuring accurate record-keeping for all inventory movements.
  • Compliance and efficiency:
  • Implementing and enforcing safety and security procedures.
  • Implementing inventory control procedures to minimize loss and maximize efficiency.
  • Preparing monthly reconciliation statements for store inventory.

Key skills and qualifications

  • Experience in retail or warehouse operations (often 2-4 years).
  • Prior supervisory or managerial experience is often preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • A customer-oriented mindset is crucial for retail positions.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems or ERP software is often required.
