Job Description

As an R&D/Product Development Engineer at TE Connectivity, you will be responsible for leading technical product development projects from market definition through production release. Your role will involve the following key responsibilities: - Lead technical product development of strategic projects, working closely with cross-functional teams and serving as the design leader. - Train colleagues on technical tools and processes to enhance overall team capabilities. - Leverage your understanding of competitive products and intellectual property to drive departmental decisions. - Execute multiple projects concurrently, influencing technology and product decisions. - Participate in design reviews of colleagues" projects to provide valuable insights and feedback. - Contribute to technical initiatives within the department to drive innovation. - Drive customer and supplier communications to ensure project alignment and success. - Conceptualize new products using engineering tools to create 3D CAD models, refining them into manufacturable and cost-effective products. - Conduct engineering analysis, including mechanical simulations on key features to ensure design integrity. - Create detailed 2D drawings with geometric dimensions and tolerances, conducting tolerance analysis. - Write specifications and technical documentation, including design objectives, validation test plans, and qualification reports. - Coordinate the creation of engineering prototypes and customer samples, validating features as required. - Work with manufacturing to ensure dimensional accuracy of products based on 2D drawings. - Coordinate validation and qualification testing to ensure design objectives are met. - Conduct failure analysis using tools like CT scans and cross-sections to determine root causes and implement solutions. - Maintain engineering documentation and history files to track project progress and changes. - Provide timely updates to the project team on deliverables and adhere to timeline commitments. Qualifications required for this role include: - Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering. - 8+ years of mechanical engineering product development experience. - Experience in the connector and cable assembly industry is strongly preferred. - Proficiency in 3D CAD applications, with knowledge of PTC Creo preferred, and Ansys SpaceClaim beneficial. - Proficiency in 3D CAE simulation applications, with experience in Ansys preferred. - Strong understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerances, along with tolerance analysis. - Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes such as stamping, molding, plating, and assembly. - Design for manufacturing (DFM) expertise to address various customer requirements. - Excellent interpersonal communication and cross-functional teamwork skills. - Ability to thrive in a global environment.
