A Staff Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who works in a variety of healthcare settings, providing patient care and support to ensure the well-being of patients. The role involves both direct and indirect care, collaborating with doctors, other healthcare professionals, and family members. Below is a general job description for a Staff Nurse: Job Title : Staff Nurse Job Summary : The Staff Nurse provides direct care to patients, assists in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. They are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, adhering to hospital or clinic protocols, and maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients. Key Responsibilities : Patient Care: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical and emotional health. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by doctors. Monitor vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates. Assist in the development and implementation of patient care plans. Provide wound care, change dressings, and assist with other procedures. Support patients in daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding when needed. Collaboration and Communication: Communicate effectively with physicians and other healthcare staff regarding patient status and treatment. Document patient care, including medical histories, treatment plans, and progress notes, in electronic health records (EHR). Educate patients and their families on care plans, medications, and post-discharge instructions. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment. Clinical Duties: Assist in diagnostic procedures and tests, such as taking blood samples, performing ECGs, or preparing patients for surgery. Monitor and manage patient pain levels and provide appropriate interventions. Respond to emergency situations and provide immediate care when necessary. Ensure proper equipment is available and in good condition for patient care. Infection Control & Safety: Maintain infection control practices in compliance with hospital policies. Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment for patients and staff. Monitor and manage patient safety, including fall prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, and overall comfort. Administrative Duties: Participate in the training and mentoring of junior nurses or nursing students. Assist in maintaining inventory and stock of medical supplies. Follow hospital policies, regulations, and legal requirements in all nursing practices. Required Skills and Qualifications : Education : A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or a Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution. Licensing : Current state licensure as a registered nurse (RN). Experience : Previous experience as a nurse may be preferred but is not always required. Specialization may be required depending on the healthcare setting (e.g., critical care, pediatrics). Skills : Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills. Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with different healthcare professionals. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Compassionate, patient-focused approach to care. Ability to stay organized and manage time efficiently. Proficient with medical software and electronic health records (EHR).
