Job Description for Senior Fitter – Sponge Iron Division (SID):
Department: Mechanical Maintenance
Experience Required: 7– 10 Years (in Sponge Iron / Steel / Cement / Heavy Industry)
Qualification: ITI / Diploma in Fitter / Mechanical Trade

Job Summary:

The Senior Fitter will be responsible for supervising and carrying out fitting, assembly, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment in the Sponge Iron Division. The role ensures efficient plant operation by reducing downtime and guiding junior fitters during maintenance and shutdown activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform fitting, assembly, dismantling, and installation of mechanical equipment such as kilns, coolers, conveyors, crushers, pumps, and fans.
• Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of plant machinery.
• Inspect, align, and adjust rotating equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Guide and supervise junior fitters, helpers, and contractors during maintenance jobs.
• Maintain records of maintenance, tools, and spare parts used.
• Ensure proper use of hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment.
• Support during shutdowns, overhauling, and major repair works.
• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical faults and provide quick solutions.
• Ensure safety standards and company policies are strictly followed during all activities.
• Coordinate with mechanical engineers and maintenance supervisors for work execution.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of fitting and maintenance practices in heavy industries.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings.
• Skilled in alignment, welding basics, and mechanical assembly.
• Good leadership and team-handling skills.
• Hands-on knowledge of tools, tackles, and measuring instruments.
• Commitment to safety and preventive maintenance culture.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
