Job Description

Job Title: Commercial Design Engineer – Solar (US Permit Projects)

Department: Design & Engineering.

The Commercial Design Engineer is responsible for preparing complete solar PV system designs, including electrical and structural layouts, for U.S. commercial projects. The role involves working on permit packages, ensuring designs comply with NEC, AHJ, and utility requirements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver accurate, code-compliant, and efficient solar designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design commercial-scale solar PV systems (rooftop, ground-mount, and carport) for U.S. projects.
  • Prepare permit-ready plan sets including site layout, electrical single-line diagrams (SLD), wiring plans, conduit/cable schedules, string layouts, and bill of materials (BOM).
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC (National Electrical Code), local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) standards, and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Use tools such as AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVsyst, Aurora Solar, and SketchUp for design and simulation.
  • Conduct system sizing, energy generation analysis, and shade studies.
  • Coordinate with project managers, structural/electrical engineers, and permit specialists to ensure timely delivery of design packages.
  • Review AHJ and utility comments and revise designs accordingly.
  • Maintain design documentation, version control, and quality standards.
  • Optimize designs for cost-effectiveness, performance, and ease of installation.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (or related field).
  • 2–5 years of experience in commercial solar PV design (U.S. market preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of NEC codes (especially Article 690) and electrical system design principles.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, and/or Aurora Solar.
  • Understanding of structural loading, racking systems, and interconnection design.
  • Experience preparing permit plan sets and working with AHJ/utility review processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially with remote teams in different time zones.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per year
