Special Educator

The primary responsibility of a special educator is to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students, creating a safe and supportive learning environment, and working collaboratively with other teachers and support staff to ensure that the needs of all students are met.

Some of the specific Job responsibilities of a special educator include:

• Assessing students' abilities and needs: This involves evaluating students' cognitive, emotional, and behavioural functioning, as well as identifying their strengths and weaknesses in academic and non-academic areas.
• Developing and implementing IEPs: Based on the results of the assessments, a special educator will develop an individualized education plan (IEP) for each student, which includes specific goals, accommodations, and modifications to meet the student's unique needs.
• Providing instruction and support: A special educator may work with students one-on-one, in small groups, or in a classroom setting to provide academic instruction and support in areas where the student is struggling.
• Creating a safe and supportive learning environment: This includes establishing clear rules and expectations for behaviour, promoting positive interactions among students, and providing emotional support for students who may be struggling with social, emotional, or behavioural issues.
• Collaborating with other educators and support staff: A special educator will work closely with other teachers, school psychologists, speech therapists, and other support staff to ensure that all students receive the support they need to succeed.

Requirements:

• BE. D in special Education / master's degree in special education.
• Experience working with multiple disabilities, including autism spectrum, ADD and ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and neglect issues.
• Positive, compassionate personality
• Ability to evaluate students accurately and objectively.
• Excellent communication and teaching skills
