Job Description

As a Principal/Lead Distributed Systems Engineer in the Hyperforce Networking team at Salesforce, you will play a crucial role in developing mission-critical network software services that ensure secure connectivity within Salesforce and between Salesforce and its external customers. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing critical services, transforming the software stack to build a highly reliable, scalable, and feature-rich delivery platform. This role presents a unique opportunity to reshape networking for Salesforce in the public clouds and solve challenges at an unprecedented scale. You will work with cutting-edge open-source projects such as OpenvSwitch, BIRD, LibreSwan, ETCD, Linux Xfrm, and BPF, providing you with significant opportunities to innovate, enhance capabilities, and contribute to the open-source community. We are seeking experienced distributed systems engineers who are passionate about tackling new challenges and making a substantial impact on our vision. The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate a passion for service ownership, possess the ability to solve complex problems effectively in a team environment, and have experience in building large-scale distributed systems, particularly in cloud environments. Additionally, familiarity with public cloud services such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, along with strong knowledge of network technologies like BGP, IPSec, TCP/IP, DNS, and TLS is essential. Your agile mindset, experience with Scrum or other agile methodologies, and emphasis on code quality and secure code delivery will be crucial. You should also exhibit a proven ability to manage live-site operations, deliver features, and address technical debt effectively. Enthusiasm for building reliable, self-healing services on unreliable hardware, coupled with experience in designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems across multiple data centers, is highly valued. To qualify for this role, you should have technical proficiency in Golang, Python, or C/C++ within a Linux/UNIX data center environment. Experience in production service ownership, mission-critical operations, agile development methodologies, and test-driven development is required. Moreover, a background in using telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence will be beneficial for this position.,
