Software Development Engineer, Database - AiDP

Role Overview: You will be joining a team of experts at Apple working on modern database technologies, distributed systems, and storage engineering to push the limits of open-source PostgreSQL. Your main focus will be on offering enterprise-class performance, availability, and durability to customers, as well as ensuring reliable administration. Your work will be deployed at a massive scale, serving millions of queries per second over many petabytes of data across data centers worldwide and impacting the experiences of millions of users of key Apple services. Key Responsibilities: - Develop and contribute to PostgreSQL, the world's most popular open-source relational database. - Develop and operate Apple's cloud-based relational database service hosting PostgreSQL databases for various Apple workloads in Services, Manufacturing, AIML, and more. - Ensure high performance, availability, and durability of the database systems. - Work on modern database technologies, distributed systems, and storage engineering to enhance the capabilities of PostgreSQL. - Collaborate with a team of experts to innovate and improve database systems. Qualifications Required: - 8+ years of relevant experience in the IT industry with a focus on developing database systems, storage engines, and distributed systems. - Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and Rust. - Advanced understanding of data structures, algorithms in storage, and indexing, with experience in coding in C and C++. - Experience in software development within open-source communities. - Knowledge of relational databases like PostgreSQL (or MySQL, MariaDB). - Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix internals, systems/application design & architecture. - Familiarity with Linux kernel development is a plus. - Expertise in code performance and optimization is highly preferred. - Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills with solid collaboration abilities.,
