Social Media Sub Editor ( Sportstar )

We are looking for a Social Media Sub Editor with 34 years of newsroom experience to join the Social Media team. The role is work-from-office and is open only at the Sportstar Chennai Headquarters. The ideal candidate will be passionate about digital storytelling, have a sharp news sense, and be able to create engaging content tailored for social platforms.

Responsibilities:

Create and publish compelling content across major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp), aligned with the brand's voice and messaging.

Write error-free headlines and captions; edit content for accuracy, clarity, and impact.

Develop a mix of original, curated, and user-generated content using text, images, and short videos.

Plan, schedule, and optimise posts to maximise reach and engagement.

Track news and trends; coordinate with reporters for breaking news updates and identify opportunities to leverage trending events.

Moderate comments and online conversations in line with brand and community guidelines.

Analyse performance metrics (reach, engagement, conversions) to refine and inform content strategy.

Required Skills & Competencies

Understanding of multiple sporting disciplines and ability to track news cycles in the beat

Strong command over English and excellent editing/proofreading skills.

Hands-on experience with social media publishing tools.

Knowledge of digital content trends, analytics, and platform best practices.

Ability to write crisp, engaging headlines and captions.

Basic understanding of multimedia formats (images, reels, short videos).

Good news judgment and awareness of current affairs.

Ability to work under tight deadlines and fast-paced environments.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or related field (preferred, but not compulsory. Work experience in the field will count more)

34 years of experience in digital content editing or social media roles.

Experience in media, publishing, or newsroom environments is an advantage.
