Smart Wearables Designer - XR Products

• As a Smart Wearables Designer - XR Products, you will be responsible for designing the physical garment of our immersive technology solutions, like gloves, smart suits, and sensor-integrated wearables
• Your work will directly shape how users experience XR by ensuring our wearables are comfortable, safe, functional, and scalable
• This role blends fashion design, material science, and wearable technology, requiring close collaboration with XR engineers, hardware teams, and external tailoring partners
• You will design garments that not only support today s hardware integrations but are also adaptable forfuture XR use cases and evolving technologies

Key Responsibilities

• Design XR-ready apparel that seamlessly integrates electronic components such as haptics, sensors, wiring, batteries, and enclosures
• Ensure comfort, fit, and ergonomics for extended wear across different body types and environments
• Select and specify fabrics and materials suitable for smart wearables, considering breathability, durability, flexibility, insulation, and safety
• Incorporate electrical safety considerations, including static control, shock prevention, heat dissipation, and moisture management
• Create functional garment designs, technical drawings, construction details, and documentation for prototyping and production
• Collaborate with XR, hardware, and product teams to align apparel design with device constraints and future product roadmaps
• Coordinate with tailors, vendors, and manufacturers to develop, iterate, and refine wearable prototypes
• Oversee fittings, testing, and iterations to ensure both functional performance and aesthetic quality
• Design garments with modularity and extensibility, enabling easy upgrades for new hardware, sensors, or XR applications
• Support client demos, pilots, and showcases by delivering polished, professional wearable prototypes
• Stay informed on emerging trends in smart textiles, wearable technology, XR hardware, and material innovation

Required Qualifications

• Degree or formal training in Fashion / Apparel Design, Fashion Technology, Textile Design, Industrial Design, or a related field
• Proven experience designing functional, technical, or performance apparel (eg, sportswear, workwear, protective gear, medical wearables)
• Strong understanding of garment construction, pattern-making, and fabric behavior
• Experience or strong interest in integrating electronics into apparel or designing around hardware constraints
• Knowledge of material safety considerations for electronics-enabled garments (ESD, insulation, heat, moisture)
• Experience working with tailors, vendors, or manufacturers to convert concepts into physical prototypes
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance function, comfort, safety, and aesthetics
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Exposure to XR, VR, AR, wearable tech, smart textiles, or IoT-enabled apparel
• Experience designing for industrial training, defense, healthcare, manufacturing, or simulation environments
• Familiarity with modular or scalable design systems for garments
• Understanding of inclusive sizing, global fit standards, and user-centered design principles
