About the Role

Skytap Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and manage

  Skytap environments

  for development, testing, training, and legacy workload support.
• Perform

  workload migration

  from on-premise or other cloud platforms (e.g., VMware, AIX, IBM i) to

  Skytap on Azure or IBM Cloud

  .
• Build and maintain

  virtual data centers (VDCs)

  in Skytap.
• Collaborate with teams to set up

  networking, storage, and compute resources

  within Skytap environments.
• Automate provisioning and configuration using

  Terraform, PowerShell, or shell scripting

  .
• Monitor and optimize system performance, usage, and cost within the Skytap platform.
• Assist with

  troubleshooting, incident resolution,

  and

  environment replication.

• Provide documentation and operational handoffs to other teams or customers.
• Work with

  Skytap APIs and CLI

  to integrate and manage workloads.

Required Skills & Experience

Core Technical Skills

• 2+ years of

  hands-on experience with Skytap

  (IBM/Power + x86 hybrid workloads)
• Strong understanding of

  Skytap infrastructure, virtual environments, and networking

• Experience in migrating traditional applications to

  Skytap from VMware/AIX

• Hands-on knowledge of

  IBM Power Systems (AIX, IBM i), x86 virtualization

• Cloud platforms:

  Microsoft Azure

  ,

  IBM Cloud

  , and integration with Skytap
• Proficient with

  automation tools

  like Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Bash
• Familiarity with

  DevOps tools

  (Jenkins, Git, CI/CD pipelines)

Networking & System Administration

• Knowledge of

  IP networking

  ,

  VPNs

  ,

  firewalls

  ,

  load balancers

• Experience in

  DNS, DHCP, NTP, LDAP/AD

  in a hybrid environment
• System administration (Linux and/or Windows)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline
• 4–7 years of overall experience in IT infrastructure or cloud engineering
• Minimum 1–2 years working directly on

  Skytap

  projects or platforms

• Certification

  in Azure or Skytap (if available) is a strong plus
• Good understanding of

  ITIL processes

  and enterprise IT operations
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills

Preferred Skills

• Experience with

  PowerVM

  ,

  LPARs

  ,

  Virtual I/O Server (VIOS)

• Experience with

  cloud cost optimization and capacity planning

• Working knowledge of

  Skytap APIs

  for automation
• Understanding of

  data protection
