Job Objective

Oversees and monitors the overall safety, security, nautical and commercial operation (including commercial effectiveness and voyage efficiency) of the assigned ships. Ensure OHSE, Energy and Environmental compliance policies are upheld.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitoring updates and proposing improvements in safety, security and commercial effectiveness and voyage efficiency of vessels assigned to fleet team by participating in relevant seminars, and implementing Group initiatives, alerts, and incident corrective actions.
  • Ensure awareness of the principle aspects of commercial agreements and charter parties of assigned vessels and associated obligations of BSM onboard assigned vessels and across the belonging fleet team.
  • Provide commercial and operational support to assigned vessel for the effective fulfilment of voyage and cargo requirements in collaboration with the MS
  • Assist Master with weather routing and weather routing service provider in collaboration with the MSI.
  • Monitor voyage performance, commercial operation and cargo operation of the assigned vessel to ensure compliance with charter party.
  • (Tanker and bulk vessel specific) Monitor execution of cargo tanks/hold cleaning activities
  • Update our in house software "PAL" (Voyage or Chartering Module) with employment details, including charter hire and charter period and ensure the data is accurately reflected in LiveFleet.
  • Commercial claims and disputes handling and loss-prevention
  • Manage relationship with owner and charterer
  • Participate in improving IT applications for the Chartering and Performance Module, drive and provide recommendations to improve automation and smart operation services
  • Monitors that all assigned vessels possess the required statutory certification for safe operation in accordance with Class, Port State Control and Flag State requirements, maritime legislation, safety regulations and operational standards of both BSM and vessels owners.
  • Identifies elevated risk conditions and circumstances in a timely manner and provides support and guidance to Technical Superintendents and Masters to adequately mitigate such risks. This includes ship security risks.
  • Reviews the pre-fixing requirements and charter party clauses during negotiations
  • Interacts and builds a relationship with Owners and charterers.
  • Participates in improving IT applications
  • Provide assistance with the employment / unemployment of the vessels
  • Provide commercial support to vessels
  • Handling cargo claims and liaison with P&I / Insurance as required and dealing with commercial disputes such as off-hire when required.
  • Provides interviews and briefings as required for senior ship staff.

Requirements

Education Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Shipping or equivalent or Second officer license
  • Being a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers or having a recognized Degree in the shipping field is preferred (but not a must)

Work Experience

  • 2 years experience within the maritime industry
  • Previous experience as a Post Fixture Operative, or experience in area of chartering, shipbroking and voyage planning is preferred (but not a must).
