Description
As a Senior Technical Officer at International Register of Shipping (INTLREG), you will play a crucial role in the research and development activities of the society. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring the appropriate development of new services, as well as the development and updating of classification rules for ships and offshore structures. You will be involved in coordinating the experience gained through design appraisal, plan approval of ships, offshore vessels, and related surveys, inspections, and audits. Working closely with the Technical Appraisal Department, you will participate in plan appraisal and engineering analysis of vessels and offshore structures when required. Your role will also require you to stay updated on maritime regulations developed by international organizations such as IMO, ILO, and standards developed by organizations like IACS, ISO, IEC, AWS, NACE, etc. You will be responsible for monitoring new international regulations from IMO and ensuring their applicable inclusion into INTLREG rules. In addition, you will be actively involved in the development of new rules for the classification of steel vessels, including Goal-Based Ship Construction standards (GBS) of IMO for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers. You will also be tasked with updating and maintaining classification rules, guidance, and survey procedures for technical departments, surveyors, and other stakeholders involved in shipbuilding, modifications, or conversions. Furthermore, you will support technical publications, incident publications, statistical analysis of trends related to losses and damages, and the development of new products and services for INTLREG or its affiliates. As a Senior Technical Officer, you will monitor various projects related to rule development, engineering, or other services assigned to R&D and act as a Project Manager. Moreover, you will supervise other staff in the Project team/R&D and monitor project progress as required. Your coordination with the Technical Appraisal Department and other departments related to classification/statutory services will ensure compliance with INTLREG Classification Rules, IMO regulations, and Flag administration. To qualify for this position, you should hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture or Shipbuilding branches. Knowledge in Class and Statutory surveys, Maritime Audits, and application of maritime conventions and regulations is essential. Familiarity with Ship Classification Rules, IMO Codes/conventions, and regulations such as SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, MLC, IMSBC, IMDG, IGC, IBC, and other maritime technical codes is required. Candidates with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience as a surveyor/specialist/design appraisal engineer in a Classification Society are encouraged to apply. Experience in handling classification and statutory compliance of Seagoing/Offshore vessels or Offshore Structures is highly desirable. Proficiency in handling computational tools for design assessment, technical writing skills, and project management skills will be advantageous in this role.
