Job Description

Job Summary:

The Senior Resident in Radiation Oncology is responsible for delivering comprehensive care to cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. This position involves active participation in patient evaluation, treatment planning, delivery of radiation, and post-treatment follow-up under the supervision of consultants. Senior Residents are also expected to mentor junior residents, contribute to academic activities, and participate in departmental research and quality assurance programs.

Key Responsibilities:Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate new cancer patients referred for radiation therapy.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and treatment planning discussions.
  • Assist in simulation, contouring of tumors and organs-at-risk, and treatment planning using various planning systems (e.g., 3D-CRT, IMRT, IGRT, VMAT).
  • Supervise and monitor the execution of radiation treatments.
  • Manage treatment-related toxicities and provide supportive care.
  • Follow up with patients post-treatment to assess outcomes and manage late effects.

Academic & Teaching:

  • Participate in academic sessions such as seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, and tumor boards.
  • Mentor and supervise junior residents and interns.
  • Engage in teaching medical students during clinical postings or lectures.

Research & Development:

  • Participate in departmental clinical research, audits, and protocol development.
  • Prepare case reports, papers, or presentations for academic conferences.
  • Contribute to ongoing or new clinical trials as per institutional protocols.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to institutional protocols and radiation safety standards.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: MBBS and MD/DNB in Radiation Oncology from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: Completed junior residency or equivalent training in Radiation Oncology.
  • Registration: Valid medical council registration (as per national regulations).

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Sound knowledge of oncology and radiation therapy principles.
  • Familiarity with treatment planning systems and radiotherapy equipment.
  • Strong clinical judgment and patient care skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Aptitude for teaching and research.

Qualification - MBBS, MS/MD, DNB
