Senior Mechanical Engineer - Paper Machine & Rubber Rollers Manufacturing

Role Objective

To ensure high-quality manufacturing of rubber rollers, paper mill machinery components, and precision-engineered parts through strong mechanical expertise, process oversight, quality inspection, and coordination with production and customer teams. This role supports ABIs commitment to delivering world-class rollers, pulping equipment, and machine parts to paper mills in India and abroad.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & Technical Responsibilities

• Oversee manufacturing of rubber rollers and precision machined components.
  
• Review engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
  
• Coordinate with machining, grinding, fabrication, and covering teams to ensure process accuracy.
  
• Ensure adherence to manufacturing standards for paper machine parts, pulper equipment, and roller systems.
  
• Guide technicians on machining, assembly, finishing, and installation methods.
  

2. Quality Inspection & Compliance

• Conduct detailed

  quality inspection

  of rollers, shafts, bearings, end caps, hardness, TIR, diameter, and surface finish.
• Perform stage-wise inspection - from raw material to machining, covering, balancing, and final approval.
  
• Validate dimensions using Vernier, Micrometer, Dial Gauge, and other precision tools.
  
• Maintain QC documentation, test reports, calibration logs, and inspection records.
  
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
  

3. Production Planning & Workflow Management

• Plan job schedules with production to meet delivery deadlines.
  
• Ensure material availability and coordinate with purchase and logistics teams.
  
• Review job progress, report delays, and maintain workflow discipline.
  
• Support continuous improvement in machining, covering, curing, and finishing processes.
  

Required Expertise

• Strong knowledge of

  rubber roller manufacturing

  , covering processes, grinding, balancing, bonding, and press/calandering systems.
• Experience in

  paper machine components

  such as pulper screens, refiner segments, rolls, guide systems, and machine parts.
• Ability to read and interpret

  mechanical drawings

  , GD&T, and process sheets.
• Good understanding of

  paper mill operations

  , dryer/press/calender section requirements.
• Hands-on experience with

  quality inspection tools & industrial standards

  .
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  

Preferred Candidate Background

• Diploma / BE - Mechanical Engineering

• 5-10 years of experience in:
  
• Rubber roller manufacturing
  
• Paper mill machinery / pulp mill equipment
  
• Heavy machining & precision engineering industry
  
• Knowledge of grinding machines, lathes, dynamic balancing, and rubber processes.
  
• Ability to communicate with production teams, vendors, and mill engineers.
