Senior Mainframe Developer

Key Responsibilities

Mainframe Development & Maintenance

• Design, develop, enhance, and support applications using

  COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM

  , and related mainframe components.
• Perform code reviews, debugging, performance tuning, and optimization for both batch and online programs.
• Utilize mainframe utilities and tools such as

  Abend-AID, Xpediter, File-Aid, Endevor/Changeman

  , etc.

Mainframe Modernization & Migration

• Contribute to or lead

  mainframe-to-cloud or distributed modernization programs

  (AWS/Azure/GCP or on-prem servers).
• Conduct assessment and analysis of legacy systems to identify modernization paths (rehost, replatform, refactor, or rewrite).
• Support data migration, mapping, conversion, and validation from mainframe data sources (DB2, VSAM) to modern databases.
• Work closely with architects to define end-state designs and modernization frameworks.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide technical direction to team members throughout the SDLC.
• Collaborate with architects, business analysts, QA engineers, and infrastructure teams to ensure successful delivery.
• Prepare detailed technical documentation and migration plans.

Quality Assurance & Support

• Ensure adherence to coding standards, security guidelines, and compliance frameworks.
• Support testing cycles, production deployments, and handle critical production issues (L2/L3 support).
• Participate in design and code reviews to ensure quality and consistency.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience

  in mainframe application development.
• Strong proficiency in

  COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM

  .
• Proven experience in

  mainframe modernization or migration projects

  .
• Strong understanding of z/OS, batch processing, transaction processing, and performance tuning.
• Experience with tools such as

  Endevor/Changeman, Abend-Aid, Xpediter, File-Aid

  , etc.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and documentation capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications (Added Advantage)

• Experience with

  Assembler (HLASM)

  programming for performance-critical or low-level system interactions.
• Exposure to replatforming or refactoring mainframe workloads.
• Knowledge of modern technologies such as Java/.NET microservices, REST APIs, or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Familiarity with DevOps tools (Git, Jenkins, UCD, Bitbucket) and CI/CD processes.
• Experience working in Agile (Scrum/SAFe) environments.
