Senior Engineering Manager

As a Senior Engineering Manager at OpenTable, you will play a crucial role in leading the Restaurant Platform Team and focusing on the B2B SaaS product. Your responsibilities will include developing functionality within the platform, enabling in-product paid add-ons, and creating upselling opportunities. You will lead high-performing engineering teams, drive technical excellence, foster a culture of innovation, and ensure the successful delivery of complex software solutions. Your role will involve a balance of hands-on technical guidance and strategic leadership to empower your teams to achieve ambitious goals and contribute significantly to the product vision. **Responsibilities:** - **Leadership & Strategy:** - Define and execute the technical roadmap aligned with business objectives. - Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to multiple engineering teams. - Drive architectural decisions for scalability, reliability, and maintainability of systems. - **Team Management & Development:** - Lead, mentor, and develop a team of skilled engineers and engineering managers. - Foster a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and psychological safety. - Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support career growth. - Recruit, interview, and onboard engineering talent. - **Execution & Delivery:** - Oversee the delivery of complex projects with high-quality outcomes. - Implement agile development processes and best practices. - Mitigate risks, resolve impediments, and ensure clear communication. - **Cross-functional Collaboration:** - Partner with Product Management, Design, and other functional leaders. - Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Champion engineering best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives. **Required Skills & Qualifications:** - **Experience:** - 12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in a leadership role. - Track record of delivering large-scale software products. - Experience in leading full stack teams with diverse skills. - **Technical Competence:** - Strong understanding of modern software architecture and distributed systems. - Proficiency in JAVA, Rest APIs, Database technologies, and Event Driven Architecture. - Knowledge of SDLC, CI/CD, and testing methodologies. - Expertise in JavaScript and React frameworks would be a plus. - **Leadership & Management:** - Exceptional leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills. - Ability to build and retain high-performing engineering teams. - Strong problem-solving abilities and communication skills.
