Job Description

Position Summary

The Senior Engineer Suspension is responsible for the design, development, and validation of suspension and chassis systems. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, expertise in vehicle dynamics, and hands-on experience in system-level calculations and design feasibility. The candidate will collaborate with suppliers, CAE teams, and cross-functional departments to deliver robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective suspension systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Suspension & Chassis Design

  • Design and develop suspension and chassis systems, ensuring compliance with performance, durability, weight, and cost targets.

  • Perform system design calculations, including vehicle dynamics assessments and fastener load calculations.

  • Prepare detailed CAD specifications and support drawing finalization.

2. Benchmarking & Target Setting

  • Benchmark competitor vehicles and systems to derive best practices.

  • Cascade system and subsystem targets to the design team based on benchmarking and requirements analysis.

3. Product Development Tools & Processes

  • Prepare and maintain DVP (Design Validation Plan) for durability and performance.

  • Create and update DFMEA to identify risks and ensure design robustness.

  • Collaborate with CAE teams for design optimization and simulation-driven improvements.

4. Supplier & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Review and approve supplier and in-house drawings for suspension and chassis components.

  • Ensure technical, tooling, and manufacturing feasibility with suppliers.

  • Coordinate with the material management team for part development, prototype readiness, and sourcing alignment.

5. Validation & Testing

  • Support rig testing, vehicle-level evaluation, and DVP execution for durability confidence.

  • Analyze test results and provide corrective actions where necessary.

  • Conduct root cause analysis for field issues and implement design improvements.

6. Cost, Weight Reduction & Tolerance Management

  • Participate in cost and weight optimization programs for suspension components.

  • Prepare tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure fit, function, and manufacturability.

  • Recommend design modifications to achieve cost-effective and lightweight solutions without compromising performance.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering or related field.

  • 410 years of experience in suspension and chassis system design in the automotive domain.

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, fastener calculations, and system-level engineering.

  • Proficiency in CAD tools (CATIA/NX) and familiarity with CAE workflows.

  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP, and product validation processes.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination skills.
