Job Description

Job Role:- Senior- Credit Underwriter

Job Location:- Andheri, Mumbai

Experience Required:- Minimum 3+ years in Credit Underwriting

Key Responsibilities

1. Credit Assessment & Underwriting

  • Evaluate loan applications by analyzing financial statements, bank statements, credit reports, GST returns, ITRs, and other relevant documents.
  • Assess borrower creditworthiness based on income stability, repayment capacity, financial behaviour, and risk factors.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative risk analysis to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Approve, decline, or recommend applications within defined credit limits and policies.

2. Risk Review & Documentation

  • Identify potential red flags, fraud indicators, and deviations in financial documents.
  • Ensure all cases adhere to internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and risk frameworks.
  • Maintain accurate records, underwriting notes, and decision rationale for audit and compliance teams.

3. Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sales, Operations, Collections, and Compliance teams to ensure smooth processing of credit files.
  • Provide timely responses and updates to stakeholders on file status and required documents.
  • Support policy enhancements by sharing insights and trends from underwriting cases.

4. Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor early delinquency trends and highlight potential risks in the portfolio.
  • Assist the risk team in periodic reviews of credit policies and product programs.
  • Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and quality audits.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data.
  • Good understanding of credit underwriting for retail loans / SME loans / personal loans (as applicable to your company).
  • Familiarity with credit bureau reports (CIBIL, Experian, etc.).
  • Proficient in MS Excel; knowledge of financial ratios and cashflow analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies.
  • Strong communication skills (both written & verbal).
  • Ability to work under defined TATs and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
