Job Summary

VMware HCX Migration Engineer

Key Responsibilities

HCX & Migration

• Design and implement

  VMware HCX

  for workload migrations into

  vCF (SDDC Manager-based environments)

• Perform migrations using

  HCX vMotion, Bulk, Replication-Assisted vMotion (RAV), and Cold migration

• Plan and execute

  on-prem to vCF

  ,

  cross-vCenter

  , and

  data center consolidation

  migrations
• Conduct

  pre-migration assessments

  , dependency mapping, and migration runbooks
• Execute

  pilot, wave-based, and large-scale migrations

vCF & Core VMware

• Strong understanding of

  vCF architecture

  (SDDC Manager, vSphere, vSAN, NSX)
• Integrate HCX with

  NSX-T networking

  , including segments, gateways, and firewall rules
• Work with

  vCenter, ESXi, and vSAN

  during migration planning and execution
• Validate post-migration workloads (networking, performance, security)
  

Networking & Security

• Configure

  HCX Network Extension

  , L2 stretch, and IP preservation
• Collaborate with network teams on

  routing, firewall rules, MTU, and bandwidth planning

• Troubleshoot connectivity issues related to

  NSX, firewalls, and load balancers

Operations & Troubleshooting

• Monitor HCX services and migration jobs
  
• Troubleshoot HCX appliances, interconnects, and service mesh issues
  
• Perform root cause analysis and provide remediation
  
• Create and maintain

  migration documentation and knowledge transfer
