Job Description

As a Scientist III at the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP), your role involves the synthesis and delivery of USP Reference Standard candidate materials and API impurities. You will be responsible for designing and developing cost-effective synthetic routes, conducting literature searches, planning and executing synthesis of target molecules, and ensuring completion of tasks as per timelines. Your focus will be on adhering to quality management systems (QMS) and lab safety practices. Key Responsibilities: - Carry out literature searches using various scientific databases - Design synthetic routes for target molecules and prepare project proposals - Procure key raw materials and reagents needed for projects - Perform reactions in small and large scale for target compound synthesis - Purify compounds using techniques like crystallization and column chromatography - Troubleshoot synthesis and purification issues - Interpret analytical data of synthesized compounds - Produce quality materials as per customer requirements - Document all experiments as per QMS guidelines - Ensure equipment calibrations and periodic checks - Communicate within the team and cross-functional teams - Follow lab safety norms diligently - Learn and practice Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging culture Qualifications Required: - Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with 1-3 years of post-doctoral/industrial experience OR M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry with 6-8 years of industrial experience in API Process R&D/CDMO/CRO - Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and interpretation of spectral data - Ability to independently search literature and develop synthetic processes - Hands-on experience in process development of chemical APIs on lab scale and production - Proficiency in QMS adoption and documentation procedures - Excellent troubleshooting skills in synthesis and purification - Good verbal and written communication skills - Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Additional Desired Preferences: - Extensive knowledge of organic reactions and experience in handling sensitive chemicals - Knowledge of flow chemistry applications in process development - Track record of patents/publications in synthetic organic chemistry/process development - Exposure to GMP/GLP environment and documentation procedures - Strong practical, documentation, and presentation skills - Attention to detail, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills - Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a passion for quality As part of USP's commitment to employee well-being, comprehensive benefits are provided to ensure your personal and financial security.
