Job Title Research Associate - Microbial fermentations and formulations (R & D)

Location – Dhayari & Pirangut Pune, Maharashtra

Qualifications –

Experience - 5 – 7 years relevant exp.

Pref Industry – Agri. Biotech / Bio Pesticide / Fertilizers/ FMCG / Agriculture

• Knowledge of fermentation kinetics and microbial physiology.
• Familiarity with aseptic techniques, media formulation, and microbial growth monitoring.
• High cell density fermentation, Media optimization, fed batch fermentation, Process development, Solid state fermentation
• Experience in data recording and interpretation (Excel, Origin, or similar).
• Understanding of scale-up concepts and bioprocess parameters is an advantage.
• Understanding of

  agricultural microbial applications

  (biofertilizers, biocontrol agents, biostimulants).

• Collaboration and communication

  with cross-functional teams (production, QA/QC, regulatory).
• Documentation, report writing, and data management
• Project planning and time management

Roles & Responsibilities-

Fermentation Process Optimization

• Assist in planning and executing high cell density fermentation experiments for bacterial and fungal strains.
• Prepare seed cultures, media, buffers, and sterilization of equipment for fermentation runs.
• Monitor key parameters (pH, DO, temperature, agitation, aeration, substrate concentration, cell density, etc.).
• Collect and analyze samples for biomass yield, metabolite production, viability, and spore count.
• Support optimization of fermentation conditions (carbon/nitrogen sources, feeding strategies, inoculum size, etc.) for maximum yield and stability

Downstream and Quality Evaluation

• Support harvesting, cell recovery, and formulation studies.
• Conduct basic quality control assays such as CFU counts, OD measurements, microscopy, and dry cell weight determination.
• Maintain accurate experimental data records and assist in report preparation.

Culture Maintenance and Strain Management

• Maintain bacterial and fungal master cultures and working stocks.
• Ensure aseptic handling and documentation of strain lineages and storage conditions.

Data Analysis and Documentation

• Record fermentation parameters, analyze results using Excel or specialized software, and summarize outcomes.
• Assist in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), batch records, and internal technical reports.
• Data organization and reporting to senior scientists or regulatory teams.

Collaboration and Safety

• Work closely with R&D, QC, process engineers, and production teams.
• Follow laboratory safety and biosafety guidelines for microbial work.
• Contribute to maintaining clean and organized laboratory space.
