Job Description

To ensure the quality of raw materials, in-process, and finished products for preforms, closures, and blown film shrink film through chemical and physical testing, troubleshooting quality issues, maintaining laboratory standards, and ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct chemical and physical analysis of PET, PP, HDPE, LLDPE, color masterbatches, additives, and other raw materials.
  • Verify COA (Certificate of Analysis) and approve materials for production use.
  • Perform moisture, IV (Intrinsic Viscosity), MFI (Melt Flow Index), density, ash content, and contamination tests.
  • Monitor in-process quality parameters during production of preforms, closures, and shrink films.
  • Conduct visual inspection, dimensional checks, weight, wall thickness, stress crack resistance, cap sealing torque, tensile strength, dart impact, COF, shrink ratio, etc
  • Ensure products meet internal and customer specifications before dispatch.
  • Operate lab instruments: DSC, MFI tester, Polariscope, Thickness gauge, Shore hardness tester, Torque tester, Tensile testing machine (UTM), Moisture analyzer, etc
  • Perform chemical stability tests, migration tests (if required), and compatibility checks for food-grade applications.
  • Analyze test results, record data, and prepare quality reports and certificates.
  • Maintain calibration logs, test reports, SOPs, COA/COC documents, and retain samples.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP, food safety & regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist in audits internal, customer, and external
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Coordinate with production team to rectify quality issues and improve process stability.
  • Suggest improvements in testing procedures, raw material selection, and process parameters.
  • Update testing methods and maintain MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) and specifications.

Skills & Competencies Required:

  • Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry and plastic processing (PET, PP, HDPE, LLDPE).
  • Experience in testing preforms, closures, shrink films, and raw materials.
  • Proficiency in lab instruments, chemical analysis and documentation.
  • Understanding of food-grade packaging standards and regulatory norms.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Industrial Chemistry, or related field.
  • Experience: 2-5 years in QA/QC in the plastics packaging industry (Preform/Closure/Shrink Film).
  • Freshers with strong technical knowledge may also be considered (for junior roles).

Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Raw material approval accuracy and testing turnaround time.
  • In-process and finished product rejection rate.
  • Lab accuracy, documentation compliance, and audit readiness.

Work Environment:

  • Plant-based role; laboratory and production floor presence required.
  • Interaction with Production, Maintenance, Purchase, and QA teams.
  • Require working in shifts and on priority quality issues.
