Job Description

Project Head/Manager in civil engineering should manage teams and often juggle multiple projects at once, overseeing all aspects from site activities to administration, and regularly engaging with a wide array of stakeholders including client representatives, contractors, architects, and government agencies.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Conduct site visits and meetings • Prepare and review reports, drawings, proposals • Track project progress and budgets • Resolve technical and administrative issues • Coordinate with design, engineering, and execution teams Key Responsibilities of a Civil Engineering Project Manager: • Project Leadership: Manages the complete lifecycle of building or infrastructure projects, coordinating civil works, MEP installations, and interior finishes.

Planning & Scheduling:

Prepares and monitors project schedules, sets milestones, and reports regularly on progress to ensure timely completion.

• Technical Coordination: Reviews architectural, structural, and MEP drawings, identifies discrepancies, and coordinates between teams. • Quality & Safety Assurance: Maintains adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and project specifications. • Budgeting & Cost Control: Controls project budgets, conducts cost estimates, and resource planning. • Stakeholder Management: Liaises with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal teams for project delivery. • Contract Administration: Manages scope, claims, and variations, and chairs coordination meetings to resolve issues. • Client and Senior Management Interface: Provides regular project updates and secures client approvals.

Essential Skills & Qualifications • Education:

Typically, a B.Tech in Civil Engineering or higher, with certifications in project management preferred. • Experience: Generally, 810 years in civil project execution, ideally with some exposure to high-end commercial or hotel projects. • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with project management tools (like MS Project, Primavera), design tools (AutoCAD), and budgeting tools. • Personal Skills: Strong communication, leadership, negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. • Integrated Approach: Success demands both technical and non-technical skills knowledge of systems, construction practices, people management, and risk mitigation.
