Production (Shift In-charge) - Hammer Shop

Position Description

Department: Production - Shift incharge(Hammer Shop)

Job Purpose:

The incumbent will be responsible to manage shift-wise operations in the Hammer Shop, ensuring smooth and safe production of stainless steel round flanges using various forging hammers and press machines. The role involves hands-on coordination of manpower, machines, material, and quality compliance during the assigned shift.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Shift Operations Management

• Supervise and control production activities during the shift across hammer and press units:
• Ensure achievement of shift production targets in line with daily production plans.
• Monitor forging parameters such as stroke count, temperature, and forging cycles.

2. Manpower Handling

• Allocate work to operators, helpers, die setters, and support staff during the shift.
• Ensure proper man-machine utilization and adherence to shift schedules.
• Conduct tool-box talks and ensure team follows safety and quality protocols.

3. Die & Tool Management

• Oversee proper die mounting, alignment, and readiness for each forging job.
• Coordinate with die shop and maintenance for timely tool changes or repair.
• Ensure proper lubrication and cooling of dies during forging cycles.

4. Material & Process Supervision

• Verify availability of raw material (cut billets) and coordinate with the cutting shop for timely feeding.
• Supervise pre-heating of billets and monitor furnace temperatures as per forging requirements.
• Ensure proper handling of forged parts for further heat treatment or inspection.

5. Quality Assurance

• Conduct in-process visual and dimensional checks for forged flanges as per drawings/specifications.
• Report any deviation or defect immediately and implement corrective actions.
• Record shift-wise rejection, rework, and production data.

6. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with plant safety standards while handling high-temperature and high-impact forging equipment.
• Enforce use of PPEs and safe work practices on shop floor.
• Report any unsafe condition or incident immediately to the Production Manager.

7. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain shift logs including production, downtime, tool changes, material usage, and quality observations.
• Submit shift handover reports with any pending issues for the next shift.
• Support audit readiness and documentation related to 5S, TPM, and ISO systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Educational Qualification: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production Engineering
• Experience: 3–6 years of hands-on experience in forging operations, preferably in stainless steel flanges or closed die forging
• Exposure: Must have worked on forging hammers and press operations in shift roles

Key Skills:

• Sound understanding of hot forging process and hammer/press working principles
• Basic knowledge of die setting, forging defects, and quality control
• Strong leadership and shift coordination skills
• Knowledge of workplace safety and production reporting
• Familiarity with production ERP and basic MS Excel/reporting tools
