DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE
A power transmission and distribution engineer who isresponsible for advising the Network Planning Product Development Team regarding how Transmission and Distribution networks are designed, implemented, and maintained and how the systems deliver electricity from Substations to end-users.Knowledge of both the high-voltage transmission lines that carry power over long distances and the lower-voltage distribution networks that deliver power to homes and businesses.
Past Experience
Transmission Engineer – 66KV to 765 KV
During your carrier you must have been part of Planning and Maintenance Team which is responsible for the following
- System Design: Designing transmission lines, towers, and other infrastructure to efficiently transport large quantities of electricity.
- Planning & Feasibility: Conducting studies to determine the best routes for transmission lines, considering factors like topography, land surveys, and environmental impact. Must be familiar with applicable standards applied for India Grid Planning.
- Technical Oversight: Selecting appropriate materials and technologies, evaluating the use of devices like High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
- Asset Knowledge: Must be familiar with vendor Asset Specifications and can guide team to do asset modelling.
Distribution Engineer 0.4 KV to 66 KV
In your past experience you must have experience in the following
- Design, analyse, and optimize power distribution systems
- Develop technical specifications for electrical equipment and materials
- Perform short-circuit, load flow, and protective relay coordination studies
- Ensure that all electrical designs comply with relevant codes and standards
Role and Responsibilities:
- Training and Keeping Oversite of the Network Planning Product Development and advise the team to meet the customer requirements for Network and Grid Planning etc. Provide domain expertise to guide the design and development team of network analysis software modules
- Work with the software team which is developing technical approach for solving wide range of complex technical challenges and project / client needs related to New Product that is being developed (Details Confidential at present)
- Should be able to work independently with minimal general direction from senior management. Must be able to make decisions, and function proactively.
- Must guide highest levels of compliance to Customer Requirements, Design inputs in all works delivered. Advise and audit product to meet Standards Requirements for India and Europe.
- Interface between DISCOMS, REC and PFC and our internal product team for ensuring we meet customer requirements.
- Regular reporting to senior management about performance and issues along with suggestions for further improvement.
- Work with software engineers to translate electrical engineering requirements into algorithms, simulations, and tools. Perform power system modelling, load flow, short-circuit, stability, and reliability studies.
- Support the integration of features such as fault analysis, contingency planning, DER (Distributed Energy Resources) integration, smart grid, and renewable energy systems.
- Assist for Preparing technical documentation, user guides, and training materials for software users. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, product, QA, and customer success) to ensure accuracy, usability, and performance of software products.
- Stay updated with industry trends in grid modernization, renewable integration, microgrids, and digital twin technologies.
- Ability to expand Scope to outside India Projects.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Engineering Degree:A Master’s or bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering / Power Systems / Energy Systems or equivalent in a related field.
- Technical Knowledge:Strong understanding of electrical power systems, including transmission and distribution principles.
- Problem-solving and Analytical Skills:Ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills:Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders, including other engineers, contractors, and clients.
- Project Management Skills:Ability to manage projects from start to finish.
- Knowledge of Relevant Regulations and Standards:Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Strong understanding of power transmission & distribution systems (HV, EHV, MV, LV).
- Expertise in load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, harmonic analysis, fault level calculation, and system stability.
- Knowledge of network analysis software tools (such as PSS®E, ETAP, PowerFactory, CYME, PSCAD, or similar).
- Ability to interpret and apply grid codes, regulatory requirements, and utility standards.
- Familiarity with renewable energy integration, storage, and smart grid concepts.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills to work with both technical (software developers) and non-technical (business/product) teams.
- Ability to work in an Agile/fast-paced product development environment.
- Experience in power distribution, transmission, or grid planning studies. Hands-on experience with simulation and analysis tools.
- Experience working with software development teams or prior exposure to power system software R&D is a strong plus.
