Postgresql Database Administrator

Key Responsibilities:

Database Management:

Manage and maintain multiple Greenplum database clusters (Versions 6x or7x), ensuring high availability and reliability.

Oversee resource management, maintenance activities, and performance tuning of production databases.

Develop and implement database policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and security.

• Migration and Upgrades:

Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patch management.

Lead data migration projects, including transitioning from other database systems to Greenplum.

Performance Optimization:

Monitor and analyse database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.

Implement performance tuning measures to optimize database operations.

Automation and Scripting:

Develop and maintain shell scripts for database automation tasks, including backup and restore processes, data extraction, and ETL workflows.

Automate day-to-day database management tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

Team Leadership:

Manage and mentor a team of junior database administrators, providing technical guidance and support.

Delegate tasks effectively and ensure project milestones are met within deadlines.

Collaboration:

Work closely with application development teams to integrate databases with other systems and support application requirements.

Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide regular updates on database-related projects.

Incident Management:

Handle incident management and troubleshooting for database-related issues.

Ensure timely resolution of database incidents and communication with affected parties.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent

Relevant certifications (e.g., Greenplum Certified Professional) are a plus.

• Experience: 6-10 years of experience in database administration, with at least 3-5 years specifically managing Greenplum databases.

Proven experience in handling large Greenplum clusters and database migrations.

• Technical Skills:

Strong knowledge of Greenplum database architecture, performance tuning, and backup/recovery processes.

Proficiency in SQL, PL/pgSQL, and shell scripting.

Experience with database automation tools and techniques.

Familiarity with other database systems such as PostgreSQL, HAWQ, and SQL Server is a plus.

Experience with Linux operating systems and tools like WinSCP, Ambari, and Pivotal Command Centre.
