Job Summary:
The Plumbing Lead Engineer as a part of an integrated, multi-discipline AEC (Architectural, Engineering & Construction) team will be involved in Plumbing system design, detailed engineering for US Projects.
The industries desirable is Life Sciences (Pharmaceutical), Advanced Technologies, Food or Beverage design.
Education:
Bachelors degree in Building Services / Mechanical Engineering or similar degree preferred.
Requirements:
- 8+ Years of experience in plumbing system design, including 4+ years leading complex industrial projects.
- Extensive experience with US projects and regional plumbing code compliance.
- Lead design phases (conceptual, schematic, design development, construction support documents) in multi-discipline teams.
- Integrate plumbing designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and process systems.
- Knowledge in hydraulic calculations, specialized industrial water supply, waste systems and material/equipment specification.
- Experienced in sustainable design (greywater recycling, rainwater harvesting, low-flow fixtures).
- Comprehensive knowledge of IPC, UPC, NSPC, NFPA, ASME, ANSI/ASSE, and LEED/WELL/ASHRAE standards.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and exposure to Revit (with BIM 360), Navisworks, Pipe-Flo, and energy modeling software.
- Exceptional leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and fostering collaboration across disciplines.
- Excellent written and spoken English for presenting designs, preparing specifications, and coordinating with clients, contractors.
- Ability to interact effectively with other engineering disciplines, clients, and vendors at all levels.
- Creative problem-solving for high-tech, regulated, or sanitary design challenges.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely, high-quality deliverables within budget.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite, including Excel, for project documentation and analysis.
- Preferred: Design knowledge of industrial gas supply systems for industrial or regulated applications.
- Preferred: Knowledge of HVAC system integration with plumbing designs.
- Preferred: knowledge in fire protection system design, including sprinklers, internal/external hydrants, fire extinguishers, gas suppression systems.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
- Organize and perform/delegate engineering and design tasks to produce high-quality construction documents with a multi-discipline team.
- Manage project scope, budget, and schedule to meet objectives and deadlines.
- Lead plumbing system design as an area/system leader, ensuring coordination with multi-discipline designers ensuring integrated design development
- Design internal plumbing systems, including domestic cold/hot water, soil/waste/venting, rainwater down takes based on rainfall intensity, basement drainage, and subsoil drainage.
- Perform hydraulic design calculations for water supply, sewerage, and stormwater systems using Excel and preferred software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SprinkCALC, Pipe-Flo).
- Conduct quality reviews for 2D/3D plumbing models to ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
- Design hot water systems, including hot water generators, domestic steam boilers, heat pumps, and calculations per applicable codes.
- Communicate with clients to understand and deliver project scope on time with high quality in a fast-paced environment.
- Develop accurate effort-hour estimates for plumbing system design tasks.
- Exercise independent judgment in developing design plans or alternatives to ensure quality deliverables.
- Provide technical mentorship to project engineers and designers on a project-specific basis.
- Specify materials and equipment for plumbing and fire protection systems to meet performance, durability, and regulatory requirements.
- Verify compliance of plumbing and fire protection designs with IPC, UPC, NSPC, NFPA 99, ASME B31, and ANSI/ASSE standards.
- Prepare detailed design reports and documentation using Microsoft Suite, including Excel, for client and regulatory submissions.
- Develop fire protection system designs, including sprinklers, hydrants, water curtains, plant rooms, water tanks, fire extinguishers, gas suppression systems, ensuring compliance with NFPA and local codes added advantage.
