Job Summary:

The Pediatric Registrar is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to neonates, infants, and pediatric patients. The role involves assisting consultants in managing neonatal intensive care (NICU), attending deliveries, and ensuring high-quality pediatric care in a maternity hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Consultant Pediatrician in managing NICU and pediatric cases.
  • Manage all levels of neonatal care (Level I, II, III) including preterm, low birth weight, and critically ill newborns.
  • Attend all high-risk deliveries and provide immediate neonatal resuscitation when required.
  • Conduct daily ward rounds in NICU and pediatric wards, documenting clinical findings and treatment plans.
  • Monitor the condition and progress of admitted patients and update senior/respective consultants.
  • Ensure timely administration of prescribed medications, fluids, and investigations.
  • Handle pediatric and neonatal emergencies efficiently.
  • Supervise and guide nursing staff in patient management protocols.
  • Monitor and manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, and other advanced life-support measures.
  • Attend pediatric emergencies, including code blues, trauma, and post-operative critical cases.
  • Assist the consultant in performing invasive procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, lumbar puncture, etc.
  • Discharge summary preparation and explain the summary to the patients.
  • To ensure punctuality and adherence to work schedules.

Administrative & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records in coordination with the MRD.
  • Ensure proper handover of cases during shift changes.
  • Assist in maintaining infection control and safety protocols in NICU and wards.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, audits, and clinical case reviews
  • Supervise and guide junior doctors, midwives and nursing staff.

Coordination & Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with consultants, midwives, nurses, and parents regarding patient condition and care plans.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians and other departments during maternal and neonatal care.
  • Ensure proper counseling and discharge education for parents.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong clinical knowledge in pediatrics and neonatology.
  • Excellent emergency management and resuscitation skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in rotational shifts.
  • Proficient in documentation and EMR systems.
