Packaging Engineer (Packaging Optimization) The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the optimization of packaging processes, materials, and methods to ensure that products are protected during transit, aligned with branding standards, and contribute to the companys sustainability goals
This role will work closely with product development, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to implement effective, cost-efficient, and environmentally sustainable packaging solution
Packaging Design & Optimization: Identify and implement the most efficient packaging solutions for each product, including box size, type, and material, to minimize material use and prevent in transit damages
Analyze and select appropriate packaging materials that balance cost, protection, and environmental impact
Develop innovative packaging methods that enhance efficiency, safety, and protection during transportation
Sustainability in Packaging: Lead initiatives for green packaging solutions, including the use of eco-friendly, biodegradable, and recyclable materials
Ensure that packaging designs meet company sustainability goals and comply with environmental regulations and certifications
Conduct lifecycle assessments to evaluate the environmental impact of packaging options
Cost Efficiency: Analyze packaging costs and work on cost-saving initiatives without compromising the quality or protective nature of the packaging
Continuously seek ways to improve packaging efficiency and reduce material waste
Artwork & Compliance: Ensure all packaging solutions adhere to the companys branding guidelines, product specifications, and customer requirements
Stay up to date with industry standards and regulatory compliance for packaging materials and labelling
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product development, operations, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to ensure packaging solutions align with production processes and supply chain capabilities
Provide technical support and training to the production team regarding packaging methods and handling procedures
Data Analysis & Reporting: Monitor and analyse packaging performance metrics, including in-transit damage rates, packaging costs, and material waste
Prepare reports and presentations to communicate packaging performance and optimization results to senior management
Education Certifications: 2-4 years work experience in Research & Development - Packaging Development function from any FMCG industry or Packaging materials making and convertor/Printing industry in R&D Design team is preferable Preferred Skills Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and how they apply to packaging
Familiarity with packaging regulations and sustainability certifications (e.g, ISO, FSC, or other green certifications)
Experience working with packaging suppliers and negotiating contracts for packaging materials .
