Job Summary: The position holder is responsible for providing quality nursing management related care provided in the wards of the hospital. He/she also shoulders the responsibility of the general administration of the respective units. The position holder is accountable and responsible for planning, directing and evaluating nursing activities of the wards, including implementation of the department's philosophy and goals, standards for nursing practice and the management and development of nursing personnel. He/she must provide leadership and direction to all nurses working in the ward.
Job Duties
1. Participate in policy decisions that affect patient care services.
2. Ensure that adequate facilities and equipments etc is provided in the units.
3. Participates in manpower planning
4. Establish and maintain an effective system of records and reports
5. Maintain good working relationship and frequent liaison with other department managers
6. Interviews prospective applicants for the post of staff nurses
7. Assures coordination / participation of unit based staff on organization wide councils / committees.
8. Actively manages clinical risk, informs administrator of incidents and contributes to quality and risk planning
9. Work with floor manager to investigate the nursing related patient complaints and incidents.
10. Leads and encourages continuous quality improvement activities with ongoing monitoring
11. Authorize leave for the staff nurses of the units.
12. Must be aware of SAHAJ Hospitals Mission, Vision, and Scope of services, various policies and the Organ gram of the Nursing Department.
13. Knowledge regarding the SOPs and clinical protocols of the ward/unit is mandatory
14. Embrace regular meetings with nursing supervisor periodically.
15. Coordinate with floor manager to apprise the nursing supervisors and help the nursing supervisor for the staff nurse performance appraisal.
16. Provides a confidential report of the staff nurses working in the units
17. Ensure the participation of nursing department staff in continuing nursing education program.
18. Work in close collaboration with medical and nursing staff to ensure timely and appropriate patient care and provide leadership in difficult patient situations.
19. Monitor and review senses and plans workload and staffing demand including leave coverage
20. Conducts daily Nursing care rounds to identify any discrepancies in care and documents in the units.
21. Shall perform any other work as assigned by the superiors.
