Job Description

Job role :
Sheet Metal tooling and component development
Location :
Pune
Key Performance Indicators :

Design and development of press tools
Product development (project) completion to agreed / customer due date, Right First Time

Critical Tasks:

Part Feasibility review of parts
Stagewise process design for stamping process.
Prepare Quality plan of the product to be developed.
Approve the Tool design (Back up calculations to meet the product dimensions, Tool construction)
Manufacturing of tool/Fixture / Gauges concept.
Track the projects for progress of tooling development.
Conduct stage wise PPAP at component manufacturer
Review process costing & give inputs to costing team.
Continual improvements in processes to improve upon Quality , cost , delivery

Knowledge :

Conceptualize press tool designs and number of stages after receipt of part drawing
Review of GD&T for manufacturing feasibility.
Understanding of stagewise process design to optimize number of stages and yield improvement.
Cutting operations (blanking, sharing, piercing, trimming).
Bending (V bending, edge bending).
Deep draw
forming processes
PFMEA
Rapid detection / poka-yoke
Types of Press Tools
Design verification of Press Tools
Material Selection as per Operation
Heat Treatment
Tonnage Calculation - Press Selection
Spring back calculation and compensation, blank size calculation
Manufacturing of tools, elements machining, heat treatment.
Tool assembly.
Tool inspection and approval.
Project Management
Review the tool /Part progress with supplier (Active task management)
Tool inspection review along with suppliers.
Tool tryout and trouble shooting.
IATF 1649 System knowledge
Quality Documents - APQP , PPAP , FMEA, SPC , MSA
Process understanding
Draw forming processes
Machining processes
Coating processes
Fabrication
Problem solving techniques

Skills :

Identification of failure mode / design errors.
Use of process understanding to develop parts of expected quality with min cost & min time to develop the part
Use of product and process knowledge to build the P FMEA for Tool & Process.
Use of knowledge to make tooling to produce expected quality product with inbuilt poka-yoke, rapid detection systems
Use of process understanding to make product defect free.
To ensure project completion happens within customer due date time.
Stage wise PPAP, Implementation of IATF 16949,
Identify patterns (pattern recognition), Maintain a database.
To facilitate cost negotiations with suppliers.
Understanding of Data Collection, Observations, Patterns through observations.

Experience : 10- 17 Years experience in similar industry & function
