Role & responsibilities

Role Summary

The Network & Cyber Security L3 Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and securing the organizations network and security infrastructure. This includes ensuring high availability, resilience, and compliance with cybersecurity standards. The L3 engineer provides advanced support, leads incident response, and acts as a technical escalation point for L1/L2 teams.

Key Responsibilities

Network Infrastructure Management

  • Design, configure, and maintain LAN, WAN, VPN, and SD-WAN infrastructure.
  • Manage enterprise firewalls, routers, switches, and load balancers (eg: Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet).
  • Optimize network performance, availability, and redundancy through proactive monitoring.
  • Implement VLANs, QoS, ACLs, and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP).
  • Ensure network capacity planning, documentation, and topology updates.

Cybersecurity Operations

  • Configure, monitor, and tune security devices (Firewalls, IDS/IPS, WAF, Proxy, DLP, EDR, SIEM).
  • Manage endpoint protection, network access control (NAC), and multifactor authentication systems.
  • Analyze and respond to complex cybersecurity incidents, vulnerabilities, and threats.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures post-incident.
  • Review and harden security configurations in line with CIS, NIST, and ISO 27001 standards.
  • Support threat hunting and vulnerability management programs.
  • Coordinate with various team for support and compliance.

Incident Response & Escalation

  • Serve as L3 escalation point for network or security incidents unresolved by L1/L2 teams.
  • Lead forensic analysis and coordinate remediation during major security events.
  • Maintain and test incident response playbooks.

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and regulatory frameworks (ISO 27001, GDPR, etc.).
  • Support security audits, risk assessments, and penetration testing activities.
  • Maintain logs, reports, and documentation for audits and investigations.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Proactively recommend improvements to network and security posture.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Experience:

    6–10 years of experience in network and cybersecurity engineering, with at least 2–3 years in an L3 or senior role.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • Firewalls: Palo Alto / Fortinet / Check Point / Cisco Meraki
    • Network: Cisco / Juniper routing and switching
    • Security tools: SIEM (Splunk, QRadar, Sentinel), IDS/IPS, DLP, EDR/XDR, WAF
    • VPN and remote access solutions
    • Network monitoring: SolarWinds, PRTG, or equivalent
    • Scripting: Python, PowerShell, or Bash
    • Cloud networking & security (Azure, AWS, GCP)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability

  • Incident handling and crisis management capability
  • Continuous learning attitude and adaptability
