Job Description

Role & responsibilities

refer to the second and third layers of the OSI model, respectively

Function:
Facilitates communication between devices on the same local network (LAN).
Addressing:
Uses MAC addresses (Media Access Control) which are unique identifiers for network interfaces.
Switching:
Layer 2 switches forward data based on MAC addresses.
Example:
Ethernet switches are a common example of layer 2 devices,

Layer 3 (Network Layer):

Function:
Enables communication between different networks (LANs) by routing packets to their destination based on IP addresses.
Addressing:
Uses IP addresses (Internet Protocol), which are logical addresses that can be configured and routed across networks.

Layer 3 switches (also called routers) route data packets using IP addresses.
