MS SQL DBA

We are seeking a multi-skilled Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in SQL Server database management systems, along with a strong understanding of database architecture, design, and optimization principles.

Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server database software
• Monitor database performance and tune databases for optimal efficiency
• Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability
• Perform regular database maintenance tasks, such as database reorganisations, index rebuilds and disaster recovery testing
• Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide timely resolution
• Collaborate with developers to optimise database queries and improve application performance
• Implement database security best practices to safeguard sensitive data
• Create and maintain documentation related to database configurations, procedures, and standards
• Stay up to date with the latest database technologies and trends
• As a senior work with the TTL (Technology Team Leader) to manage the teams workload and act as a stand-in during any absences of the TTL

Key Skills Required:

• Experience with SQL Server database technologies with a range of versions
• Database installation & configuration experience
• Significant experience using database backup tools and methodologies
• Configuration of database replication technologies, such as SQL Server Replication
• Experience working on performance tuning
• Clustering techniques such as SQL Server Clustering
• Experience of patching and upgrading
• Managing workloads within the Jira product
• Experience working with Microsoft via their support processes
• AWS Cloud would be a bonus

Qualifications:

• hands-on experience of database administration
• Some proven experience of managing and mentoring other database administrators is a significant advantage
• Proven experience as a Database Administrator, preferably with SQL Server
• Strong understanding of database management concepts, including normalization, indexing, and transaction management
• Proficiency in SQL scripting and query optimisation
• Experience with database performance monitoring and tuning tools
• Familiarity with database security principles and techniques
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certifications, AWS Certifications) are a plus but not essential
• Experience of managing databases within a cloud environment such as AWS is a plus but not essential
