Medical Superintendent

1. Role Overview

The Medical Superintendent is responsible for the overall clinical and administrative management of the hospital. This role ensures efficient functioning of medical services, compliance with healthcare standards, and delivery of high-quality patient care.

A. Administrative Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the hospital and ensure smooth functioning of all clinical departments.
• Formulate, implement, and monitor hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, accreditation standards, and medical ethics.
• Coordinate with government authorities, health departments, and regulatory bodies.
• Manage medical manpower planning, duty rosters, and performance evaluations.

B. Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation

• Ensure compliance with:
• NMC Minimum Standard Requirements
• Bio-medical Waste Management Rules
• Clinical Establishment Act norms (where applicable)
• Fire & safety standards
• Infection control protocols
• Maintain statutory registers and documentation for NMC inspections.

C. Clinical Governance

• Monitor quality of care, patient safety indicators, ICU/OT management, and emergency response.
• Conduct clinical audits, mortality meetings, and quality improvement programs.
• Supervise resident doctors and medical staff in accordance with NMC guidelines.

2. Required Qualifications (As per NMC Norms)

• MBBS degree recognized by NMC.
• Postgraduate qualification: MD/MS preferred.
• Experience:
• Minimum 10 years of teaching experience (As Professor /Associate Professor).
• Should have substantial hospital administration exposure.
• Should meet all requirements specified under NMC Regulations for Medical Colleges (latest MSR guidelines).
• Ensure that hospital services meet NMC/MSR requirements in bed strength, staffing, facilities, and emergency services.
• Implement hospital policies, SOPs, and standard treatment protocols.
• Coordinate with the Principal and Heads of Departments for synchronized academic and clinical activities.
