Job Summary
The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the optimal operational efficiency, reliability, and safety of all mechanical equipment and systems within the Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) manufacturing plant in Amritsar. This role is crucial for implementing and managing preventive/predictive maintenance programs and rapidly addressing unplanned breakdowns to minimize downtime and support continuous production.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
- Develop, schedule, and execute comprehensive
Preventive Maintenance (PM)
and Predictive Maintenance (PdM)
routines for all mechanical assets, including pumps, Vaccum compressors, blowers, agitators, gearboxes, conveying systems, rotary kilns, and material handling equipment specific to a PCC plant. - Utilize tools like
vibration analysis
and thermography
to monitor equipment health and predict potential failures. Troubleshooting & Repair:
- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns, diagnose root causes, and execute effective repairs to restore equipment functionality quickly.
- Perform hands-on repairs, replacements, and alignments of critical rotating and static equipment.
Reliability & Improvement:
- Conduct
Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
for repetitive failures and implement long-term corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and availability. - Propose and implement engineering modifications or upgrades to mechanical systems for enhanced efficiency, safety, and reduced maintenance costs.
Documentation & CMMS as per ISO 9001 and 14001
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, work orders, repair history, and spare parts consumption using a
Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
. - Manage and control the inventory of critical mechanical spare parts.
Safety & Compliance:
- Participate in safety audits and hazard identification specific to PCC plant operations.
Collaboration & Project Support:
- Coordinate with the Production, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal impact on plant operations.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, and handover of new mechanical equipment and machinery.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
or a related technical field.Experience:
Minimum 3 to 7 years
of experience in Mechanical Maintenance, preferably within a Chemical Processing Plant, Cement, or continuous process industry
environment (PCC experience is a strong advantage).Technical Skills:
- Strong practical knowledge of
rotating equipment
(pumps, compressors, fans, gearboxes) and static equipment
(piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers). - Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Hands-on experience with alignment techniques, precision measuring tools, and workshop practices (welding, fitting).
- Familiarity with a CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo).
- Knowledge of
pneumatics
is an asset.
