Role & responsibilities

The CAM Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programs used in CNC machining operations. This role bridges the gap between design engineering and production, ensuring that parts are manufactured efficiently, accurately, and to the highest quality standards. The CAM Engineer plays a key role in process development, toolpath generation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Responsibility:

  • Develop and optimize CNC programs using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Siemens NX, Fusion 360, etc.) Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using CAM software for milling, turning, and multi-axis machines.
  • Interpret 2D and 3D engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents to develop machining strategies and create accurate tool paths
  • Select appropriate tools, speeds, feeds, and cutting paths for efficient material removal and surface finish. Select appropriate tools, cutting parameters, and fixtures based on material, geometry, and machine capabilities.
  • Support first article inspections (FAI) and make necessary program adjustments based on quality feedback.
  • Work closely with CNC machinists, engineers, and quality control to ensure accuracy and manufacturability of parts.
  • Simulate tool paths to identify and resolve potential collisions, tool gouges, or inefficiencies.
  • Maintain and organize program documentation, setup sheets, and tooling lists.
  • Support the setup and troubleshooting of machining operations on the shop floor.
  • Continuously improve machining processes to reduce cycle times and increase productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout all programming and manufacturing activities.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability of components
  • Continuously improve machining strategies to reduce cycle time and increase tool life
  • Maintain documentation for CAM processes and CNC programs
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and provide technical support

Qualification:

  • Bachelors degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in CAM programming and CNC machining
  • Proficiency in CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, EdgeCAM, HyperMill, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, machining principles, and tooling
  • Experience with multi-axis CNC machines (3-axis, 5-axis, mill-turn)
  • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with different departments like Supply chain, Quality, Design, Purchase and Human Resource in the organization.
  • Should be result oriented during work
  • Team management skills and excellent supervising abilities to motivate staff & team of workers.
  • Positive & Proactive approach toward work
