We re looking for a Full Stack Technical Manager who can lead and grow a team of engineers while staying hands-on with Ruby on Rails and React. This role is perfect for someone who loves building products, solving hard problems, and mentoring engineers to do their best work.

Role Overview

As a Full Stack Technical Engineering Manager, you ll:

  • Lead, inspire, and grow a team of talented engineers.

  • Take technical ownership of core systems built on Ruby on Rails and React.

  • Collaborate with product, design, client facing teams and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality features on time.

  • Shape engineering practices, team culture, and long-term architecture decisions.

You will balance hands-on engineering with strategic leadership , helping the team build reliable, maintainable, and scalable solutions while fostering a culture of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Architect, design, and implement scalable, maintainable systems using Ruby on Rails and React.

  • Review and guide code, ensuring high standards for quality, performance, and security.

  • Drive best practices around testing, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Make technical decisions with trade-offs between speed, quality, and maintainability.

  • Stay up-to-date with modern technologies, frameworks, and industry trends, and introduce innovative solutions.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and coach engineers at all levels.

  • Conduct performance reviews, identify growth opportunities, and support career progression.

  • Build a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture.

  • Help the team navigate challenges, resolve conflicts, and celebrate successes.

Product & Delivery

  • Collaborate closely with product and design to define priorities, scope, and delivery plans.

  • Break down complex problems into actionable technical solutions.

  • Ensure features are delivered on time without compromising quality.

  • Participate in planning, estimation, and sprint retrospectives.

  • Monitor metrics like performance, uptime, and user satisfaction to ensure product quality

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify bottlenecks in engineering processes and implement improvements.

  • Promote a culture of knowledge sharing, documentation, and cross-team collaboration.

  • Encourage experimentation, learning, and iterative improvement

Technical Requirements
  • Backend: Deep experience with Ruby on Rails, including APIs, background jobs , and database design, with a solid understanding of object oriented programming principles.

  • Frontend: Strong experience with React, including hooks, state management, routing, and component architecture.

  • Databases & Storage: PostgreSQL, MySQL, caching strategies (Redis, Memcached).

  • Architecture: REST APIs, GraphQL, microservices, and event-driven systems.

  • Cloud & DevOps: Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure; containerization with Docker/Kubernetes; CI/CD pipelines.

  • Testing & Quality: Unit testing, integration testing, test-driven development (TDD), automated testing frameworks

Leadership & Soft Skills
  • An overall experience of 12+ years of engineering with a proven experience leading and growing engineering teams at a leadership role (5+ years preferred).

  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization skills.

  • Ability to create a safe environment for experimentation, learning, and feedback.

  • Passion for mentoring, coaching, and building high-performing teams

Nice-to-Have
  • Experience in high-growth startups or fast-moving product environments.

  • Familiarity with monitoring, observability, and incident response practices.

  • Experience in agile methodologies and working in cross-functional teams.

  • Knowledge of modern frontend tooling and styling frameworks

Work Environment

In this role, a significant aspect of the job involves working in the office for a standard 40-hour workweek. Being present in the office enables seamless communication, facilitates quick decision-making, and encourages spontaneous collaboration that contributes to the overall success of our projects. Compensation

The expected earnings for this role could be comprised of a base salary and other forms of cash compensation, such as bonus or commissions as applicable.

This pay range is just one component of MX s total rewards package. MX takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location, skillset, peer compensation.
