What does a successful Mainframe Infrastructure Engineering, Senior Advisor do?

As the Mainframe Infrastructure Engineering at Fiserv, you will be at the forefront of driving the core engineering, design, and implementation of our mainframe computing environment. You will oversee strategic initiatives that modernize and optimize mainframe infrastructure, ensuring alignment with business goals. With 1820 years of experience, you bring hands-on expertise in mainframe hardware, operating systems (e.g., z/OS), and subsystems such as CICS, MQ, and DB2. Your proficiency in performance tuning and capacity planning will contribute to our mission of delivering world-class financial solutions to clients worldwide.

What you will do:

- Develop and execute long-term strategies for mainframe infrastructure aligned with organizational goals.

- Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure mainframe initiatives support broader business objectives.

- Drive mainframe modernization initiatives, including integration with cloud platforms, adoption of DevOps practices, and automation of operational workflows.

- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, guiding best practices.

- Oversee the architecture and deployment of mainframe hardware and software solutions, ensuring seamless integration with other IT systems and applications.

- Conduct performance assessments and implement optimization strategies.

- Establish robust monitoring and maintenance protocols to ensure system uptime and performance.

- Implement security frameworks to safeguard mainframe systems against threats.

- Manage vendor relationships, including contract negotiations and performance reviews.

What you will need to have:

- 18+ years of experience in mainframe infrastructure engineering, including hands-on experience with mainframe hardware and operating systems (e.g., z/OS).

- Extensive experience with subsystems such as CICS, MQ, DB2, and data communication.

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, and/or equivalent military experience.

- Proficiency in performance tuning and capacity planning for mainframe systems.

- Strong understanding of ITIL processes, cybersecurity principles, and compliance standards.

What would be great to have:

- Master’s degree in a relevant field.

- Experience with mainframe modernization initiatives, such as cloud migration, virtualization, and automation.

- Extensive expertise in developing and executing disaster recovery strategies.

- Industry certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator for z/OS).

- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
