The Swimming Pool Lifeguard ensures the safety and well-being of all swimmers at the swimming pool. Lifeguard responsible for enforcing pool rules, preventing accidents, and providing immediate first aid and rescue operations when necessary. This role requires strict adherence to Indian and international safety compliance standards and applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Surveillance & Monitoring:
- Constantly monitor the pool area to ensure swimmer safety.
- Observe for any signs of distress, injuries, or accidents among swimmers.
- Ensure that no one is engaging in risky behaviors that could lead to accidents.
Enforcing Pool Rules:
- Ensure that all pool users adhere to established safety rules and guidelines.
- Educate swimmers, especially children, on safety procedures before entering the pool.
- Locking and unlocking the swimming pool facility and assuring strict time adherence.
Emergency Response:
- Act swiftly and efficiently in case of emergencies such as drownings, injuries, or medical incidents.
- Administer first aid and CPR as needed and ensure that injured persons receive appropriate medical attention.
- Alert Sport medical team if necessary, and assist with evacuation procedures.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to Head coach and Facility and safety management immediately.
- Ensure that all poolside rescue equipment (such as life buoys, rescue tubes, and first-aid kits) is in good working order.
Compliance with Safety Standards:
- Ensure proper documentation of incident reports, rescue operations, and any safety violations.
- Complete necessary training and certification to remain compliant with Indian safety regulations.
Communication & Coordination:
- Coordinate with fellow lifeguards and pool staff to ensure smooth operation during shifts.
- Report any incidents, accidents, or safety concerns to the Head Coach and safety team.
- Provide clear instructions and assistance to swimmers and visitors.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required Qualifications:
- Certified Lifeguard with valid certification from recognized bodies such as the Indian Red Cross Society or National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF) or Swimming Federation of India (SFI), Life Saving Society India (LSSI) or Govt authorization.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
- Knowledge of safety compliance requirements as per Indian law and swimming pool safety standards.
Experience:
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a lifeguard role at a sport facility or public swimming pool facility.
- Experience in emergency response and first aid.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong observation and communication skills.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform rescues if needed.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and work calmly under stress.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities, at the beach/ocean, or other offsite natural pools, streams, or rivers to determine any potential dangers or hazards
- Ability to adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of the visitors and other staff.
- Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions
- Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety.
- Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to swim at least 50 meters continuously and perform water rescues.
- Physical stamina to stand or remain alert for extended periods.
- Ability to perform first aid and CPR on individuals of various sizes.
Working Conditions:
- Full-shift or split shifts, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Work is primarily performed outdoors pool, requiring exposure to heat, water, and weather elements.
