Lifeguard

You will be responsible for constantly scanning the area of responsibility to identify potential hazards, distressed swimmers, or individuals in need of assistance. It will be your duty to enforce safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents, educate patrons about water safety, and enforce facility policies. In emergency situations, you must act quickly and decisively to perform water rescues and administer first aid or CPR. This may involve using rescue equipment such as rescue tubes, life buoys, or automated external defibrillators (AEDs). You will coordinate with other lifeguards and emergency services when necessary and communicate effectively with patrons, providing clear instructions during emergencies. Administering basic first aid, CPR, and other life-saving techniques as needed is crucial. Lifeguards should be trained and certified in these skills. Additionally, you are expected to provide a positive and friendly environment for patrons by answering questions, offering assistance, and helping with general inquiries. Ensuring that rescue and safety equipment is in good working condition is vital. You should report any issues promptly and participate in routine inspections. Attending regular training sessions to stay updated on water safety, emergency procedures, and first aid techniques is essential. Lifeguards often undergo regular recertification to maintain their skills. Maintaining clear and effective communication with fellow lifeguards, facility staff, and patrons is important. You will need to relay information about changing conditions, potential hazards, or any other relevant details. Keeping accurate records of incidents, rescues, and other relevant information and completing incident reports as necessary is part of the role. Maintaining good physical fitness is required to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies. Lifeguards often need to pass physical fitness tests as part of their certification requirements. You should also stay aware of weather conditions that may impact water safety and enforce policies related to inclement weather.
